In brief
Since 3 July 2026, INPS has made a public simulator available for people considering registration in the artisan and retailer schemes. It provides an indicative estimate, not a definitive assessment of registration, eligibility or the contributions actually due.
What is the INPS simulator?
The service estimates social security contributions from the details entered. Access is free and anonymous, with no login credentials required. It is intended particularly for people considering a new artisan or retail activity who want an idea of the cost before registration. It distinguishes ordinary contributions, the reduced contribution scheme associated with forfettario and the reduction for eligible pensioners over 65.
Inputs and results
Relevant details include expected income, months of activity and any family workers. Income determines the minimum component and possible contributions above the minimum; months matter for a partial registration year; workers and the selected contribution scheme affect the overall estimate. The result uses the available parameters for the selected year. Its reliability depends on the accuracy of the information, and it excludes penalties and accessory charges.
Forfettario is not only a tax choice
Artisans and retailers should assess social security as well as substitute tax. The simulator can distinguish the contribution option linked to forfettario, but the choice also depends on the work performed, expected income and pension coverage. INPS warns that opting for the reduced scheme may result in fewer credited pension months. Immediate savings therefore need to be considered alongside their pension effects. Tax classification and social security classification are related but not identical.
Checks before starting
Describe the actual activity; identify the ATECO code; check the applicable social security scheme; estimate revenue, costs and contributions; assess all forfettario eligibility conditions; and plan tax and contribution advance payments. Artisan and retailer schemes, Gestione separata and professional pension funds follow different rules.
Frequently asked questions
Is the estimate final?
No. It is indicative. Actual contributions depend on classification, real figures and eligibility.
Do I need SPID?
No. INPS describes the tool as freely accessible without credentials.
Can it help with a forfettario assessment?
Yes, but it does not itself establish tax eligibility or overall suitability.
